CAFE Lab

Opportunities

We welcome students and researchers who want to work on farms, catchments, wetlands and rivers.

Students

Depending on what you are after, you could do an Honours, Masters or PhD project with the lab, or join us as an intern.

Honours

A nine-month research project, generally for the top students in a Bachelor of Science. A first class result gives an efficient path into a PhD. See Honours at James Cook University and the course details.

Masters

Research components range from six months to two years depending on the degree, from coursework degrees with a research project to the research-only Master of Philosophy. See the Master of Science, Master of Science (Professional), Master of Marine Biology and Master of Philosophy.

PhD

A three to four year research degree. James Cook University offers scholarships that you can apply for. See the Doctor of Philosophy.

Internships

Many university degrees include an internship component. We take volunteer interns, who gain experience in a highly applied research environment at TropWATER.

How to get in touch

Email adam.canning@jcu.edu.au with

Your proposal should be about what genuinely interests you, not what you think I want to hear. Please write it yourself rather than generating it with AI. It does not need to be polished, but it should show your own thinking.

Collaborators

If you are a researcher, land manager or organisation interested in working together, email a short note on what you have in mind.
